The Two Forces
by N.drew inthe ark pictures the response to one kind.. it means the customs of the people can cause catastrophe.. and most people did not stop the destructive behavior , but some used it to be redeemed.. .
sodom pictures the other kind.. it means the people respond badly to the intuitive recognition that doom is ahead.. .
in one case what the people are doing causes something bad.

THE GLADIATOR
Take from some notes I made just before I left the Jehovah's Witness set up:
All my life I had been promised that I would never grow old and die but would live forever on earth, when it was turned into a paradise. Now I began to realize that I was going to grow old and die like everyone else. After so many wasted years believing I was chosen, coming to terms with the reality that I was just like every other human, was a humbling experience.
I was no longer chosen for a special purpose but just a fool whom reality had caught up with. Standing on the platform in my smart suit, lecturing people older than me had been pretentious. Believing that I knew the answers to all life’s questions while the rest of the world stumbled in the dark had been arrogant. Waiting for the end of the world to come and the slaughter of millions of people, now seemed bizarre.
Looking on the bright side, my experience had taught me to value people. I reflected on all the decent people I had known who were not in my religion. Despite their kindness towards me, I had still selfishly expected them to be slaughtered without a trace of regret on my part. Now I was able to see their worth and understand the courage they showed as they quietly lived their lives without condemnation of others or hope of a reward.
Living in a closed world for so long had taught me the value of life lived in freedom. Even so, how could I possibly leave the closed world that I was so familiar with and walk away into an uncertain future without the hope of living forever? Having always believed that old age and death were a punishment, the prospect of living the rest of my life with nothing to look forward to, except old age and death, seemed a pointless exercise. Would I find in myself the courage, that I saw in others, to face such an outcome?

DaCheech "gladiator, you have high 1824 posts since '01, I have 5712 posts since 04' some have 5712 posts in 6 months."
......
This is true but I did post under my real name 'Trevor' for a time. Even so my post count is low which I see as an indication of a balanced life.
Addiction to online forums is no unknown. Keeping a lid on my post count is a sign of sanity.
I will hang around indefinitely, posting meaningless comments and achieving nothing except amusing myself.

You raise an important question smiddy and have received some very good responses.
Many long time posters have been involved in long debates battling to defend their point of view. This is therapeutic and helps to resolve the issues that they came here with. In time their agenda changes and they leave. Often they find they no longer have an agenda but hang around having a little fun until boredom causes them to fade away. Like every playground we do eventually outgrow the class and find a more fulfilling pastime.
I use the word ‘agenda’ because the most prolific posters on this board have an agenda that they feel compelled to push. They are on a mission. It could be that trying to convince others that they have ‘the truth’ is a way of convincing themselves that their belief is the right one.
Heavy debates invariably lead nowhere. They often degenerate into cat fights with name calling and personal insults. Stirring the pot is not for everyone and sometime the light relief of a fluff thread is a welcome respite.

Could a man with long hair and a scruffy face make it up to elder status?
Most elders have a long face and scruffy hair.

Well Hello mosesimon. I have waited all my life to hear from God and often wondered why he or she does not have a web site. I suppose the lack of computer shops in heaven could be the reason.
It would seem that God has appointed you as his servant to communicate on his behalf. There are others on this forum whom God talks to and they do not welcome competition. Tread carefully for their wrath towards usurpers is a terrible thing to behold.

Sigh So I think I don't have a guilty secret that anyone would wish to hear.
Perhaps like me you have secrets but feel no guilt.

I have said many times on this forum that there are aspects of some religions that are socially helpful or benign.
Taking religion as a whole though, we must includes the spread of Islam and it sects and the violent past of Christianity. My conclusion is that the world would be better off without religion and belief in a ‘personal’ God. I don’t rule out energy that is invisible to us but is aware of our existence.
Humanity would replace its reliance on God with self reliance and make a greater effort to improve life on earth. If we believe that this life is all we have, we may value it more.
